A little awareness goes a long way, especially when it comes to your long-term health.

Diabetes is more common than many people realise, and often goes undiagnosed for too long. This November, Diabetes Awareness Month offers a gentle reminder to pause, check in with your health, and learn the signs.

Why Awareness Matters

Type 2 diabetes can develop gradually, and some people live with it for years before diagnosis. Symptoms such as increased thirst, tiredness, blurred vision or slow-healing wounds can easily be missed or explained away. But early diagnosis makes a real difference.

Know the Risk Factors

Certain factors increase your risk, including family history, age, high blood pressure, being overweight, or carrying more weight around your middle. People from Black African, African-Caribbean and South Asian backgrounds are also at higher risk. Understanding your risk is not about blame, it is about giving yourself the chance to take action.

Take a Simple Step

You can check your risk online through Diabetes UK's Know Your Risk tool, or speak with your GP or local pharmacy. It takes just a few minutes and could help you catch something early. At VFJ Pilates, we are all about small steps with big benefits, and this is one of them.

Checking in with your health is one of the kindest things you can do for your future self.

From my heart to yours,

Victoria xx
