Why Christmas Is Better Than Halloween (In My Humbly Biased Opinion)

Both have their charm, but let’s be honest, one comes with cosy lights, roast potatoes, and actual days off work. I rest my case… but I’ll explain anyway.

Do not get me wrong, I love a good pumpkin. But once the fake cobwebs are down and the last fun-size chocolate has been eaten, I am more than ready to trade ghosts for glitter. Halloween is fun. Christmas is magic.

Halloween is a sprint, a sugar rush, a one-night-only costume panic. Christmas is a slow build, like a kettle gently coming to the boil. It is the anticipation that makes it delicious. The twinkling lights that go up too early. The songs you pretend to hate but secretly hum in the car. The socks that get fluffier by the week.

And let us be honest, Halloween is for extroverts. For loud costumes and louder parties. Christmas? Christmas is for everyone. Whether you love carolling or quiet evenings, shopping or staying in, there is a way to do December that fits.

Christmas smells better. Tastes better. Sounds better. It is cinnamon and pine, pastry and gravy, crackling fires and Wham! on repeat. It is card-writing and list-making and that one old decoration that makes you feel five again.

Halloween has mischief. Christmas has meaning. It is the season for small kindnesses, handwritten notes, second helpings, and unexpected phone calls. It is the time of year we remember to look for light, even when the days are short.

So yes, Halloween has its fun. But Christmas has heart. And I will take that over fake blood and skeleton earrings any day.
